Here is a clipping from an article in a small town I visit quite often.  It’s probably something similar to small towns (and more than likely large towns/cities as well) across the country.

Apparently the man they are talking about is either a raging idiot or working with the bean counters to make sure there are lots and lots of beans for spending on things that are solely for the entertainment of the local government.  And not to mention funding projects that the wealthy that run..Oops!.. I mean live in that said town.

Now here is my take on things.  First:  Mister Bill Kohbarger is not a very nice man.  Neither is he very good at his job.

Second: There are reasons that people such as that stay in office.

One reason is that they are hired in. Another reason is that, as a community, we don’t do anything about it most of the time.

Why is that?

Let’s explore!

On your daily routine is there a item somewhere on that list of TO DO’s that is nestled somewhere between GET EGGS and PICK UP LITTLE JOHNNY that says, “Review government spending and who is in charge of it?”  No, I don’t think so.

Is there a piece of paper taped to the mirror that says, “Review county budget and check for screw ups?” Not likely.

How about this one.

Find out who pushes the buttons on the politicians in my state and see how I can push back.

Won’t find that one any where I know of.

Now let’s ask ourselves.

What can we do?  What can we say and to whom?

Well you can start by diggin in the phone book under government and look at all those nice shiney phone numbers.  Call them all.  Then have your friends call them all.  Then have them ask their friends.  Have your dog call them. Have E.T. call them.

Guess what will happen!

HA!  Nuttin!

Or more than likely they will coo and whisper sweet nothings in your ear and assure you that everything is just hunky dory.

But you can vote.  You can access all state records (I think “ALL” means ALL but I’m too lazy to check) and review them.  Where is the money coming from?  Who is spending it? Who gets money from outside sources during election time and see if that person benefits from it. 

But here is the catch.  As I said.  I’m too lazy.  Well so are 99.7% of the entire country.  Status Quo baby!  As long as it doesn’t stop one from getting their cappuccino in the morning or their internet porn at night they could possibly not care any less what’s going on with the money the state, counties, cities, or god knows who else is taking out of their pay check.

Do I know what’s going on in my home town?  Well not entirely.  I have searched public records and yes there are some hokey spending but the biggest chunk is going to good things like fixing broken ass roads, municipal services that actually do “some” good. Funding services that help during “acts of God” such as hurricanes and the like.

Of course there is some money that is spent on studies for things that are not meant to do more than burn cash at the end of the fiscal year so Uncle Sam will give more back to that state or “local government entity” for the next year.

Of course spending like that is nothing more than a poke in the eye by: Department of Transportation, Department of Parks and Recreation, etc.

Of course there are the over staffed offices that are crawling with friends, family, dead beats that really don’t do anything but collect YOUR hard earned money in the form of a government paycheck and benefits that YOU don’t have because, well, you don’t work for the state/government.  Eye poke…

I could go on and on about the federal government and all the studies and such they spend money on but that’s not this blog today.  Maybe another time.

But the boiled down truth is small towns (such as Pahrump Nevada) are run by crooked, stupid, selfish and greedy people and they know that no one will ever do anything about it because, well, let’s face it…  They are in office because someone put them there.  Be it lack of voters or they were hired in by the “good ol’ boy” system and they are there to do what THEY want and SCREW the people. (Eye poke)

You want water?  You want to right to have a well for that water.  Tough shit, we are selling the water rights to some other town, they are going to charge you for what you have been getting for FREE before AND there will be a water shortage. (Eye poke)

You want jobs?  Well unless we are forced to let someone bring their business into town, they better not compete with our buddies business. (Eye poke)

You want better community services? No, we want to over pay our buddies company to research something that we would never do in the first place so when it’s time to run for some office they will give us money. (Eye poke)

Hey, does any of this sound familiar?

Do you think there is anything you can do?

Did you know that if you put someone in office that actually had to answer to the people, had the people’s best interest in  mind, accepted no outside influence and was down to earth minded and a genuine community minded person..That they would either: Be murdered in their sleep, or, have some trash made up about them to try and run them off, or, have their life, their family’s life threatened?

I bet you didn’t know that!

That’s the world we live in.

So get off your fat lazy ass.  Find a phone book and go beat a politician over the head with it. 

WAIT!  STOP!

I was kidding!

Get those numbers.  Visit the hall of records, court house etc and look at the books. Find where the money is going and DO  SOMETHING  ABOUT  THIS  CRAP
